Established in 1847, The Village Tavern is the oldest tavern/restaurant in continuous operation in Illinois. We are able to seat over 125 patrons in our spacious dining room, which features a large brick fireplace and solid oak hand hewn beams, and our pub style bar. The massive 35’ mahogany “Presidents Bar” out of McCormick Place attracts locals and tourists alike. We're known for our variety of freshly ground 1/2 lb. burgers made with freshly ground meat from Dorfler's Meat Market, hearty sandwiches, and homemade soups and salads. The menu features ribs, steaks, chops, fish, chicken, and shrimp. The Tavern’s freshly breaded famous Fish Fry is a menu staple along with the best broasted chicken you have ever tasted. The Village Tavern offers a diverse variety of craft brewed beers on tap and in bottles, along with a nice selection of wines and a full bar.

The service is always very quick and they have a beautiful bar with a great beer selection. Recommend it for anyone, from families to the younger crowd. So much history in that place!!! "We stopped in The Village Tavern on our quest to visit the oldest bar in each state. Lucky number 32! This bar is at the top of my favorites list. An adorable building in a charming neighborhood. The inside is rustic with taxidermy and vintage stained glass windows. A beautiful grandfather clock sits at the end of the bar. On top of the historic appeal the staff is beyond amazing. Super friendly people to chat with and the pour a fantastic drink to boot! You should stop in and see for yourself!
